In his long and brilliant career, Roop produced a lot of great artists, wrote a lot of great songs, and released a lot of great music in his own right. But he always acknowledged that working with Kevin Godley, Stephen Tayler and hundreds of the world’s finest artists on One World One Voice was among the most important achievements of his life. Sadly, Roop passed away on 4th June 2020, early on the day we launched this website and announced the 30th Anniversary reissue of One World One Voice. He knew it was happening though, and he loved that. After all, he’d rounded up the team to bring One World One Voice back One More Time in aid of Friends of the Earth. He’d inspired us all over again with his easy charm and boundless enthusiasm. And he’d made sure that this site launched on World Environment Day 2020, just as he’d planned. Well, he was one of the world’s great producers, what else should we have expected? In addition to memories from 30 years ago, we’ll also be sharing tributes to Roop from those who knew and loved him best, which we’ll share here between now and the re-release of OWOV in October 2020. In the meantime, if you want to leave your own thoughts, memories or recollections of Roop, feel free to head over to where there is now a special page just for you.
