Celebrating the 30th anniversary of this global phenomenon
In 1990, as the BBC’s contribution to the One World Fortnight collaboration between broadcasters in 27 countries, music legends Kevin Godley and Rupert Hine set out to record and film the first ever genuine World Music composition. Together with recording engineer Stephen W Tayler, Director of Photography Joe Dyer and project producer Andy Ward, they travelled the world for three months, inviting hundreds of the world’s greatest musicians to add their own talents and voices to this uniquely ambitious project. The result was One World One Voice, a musical ‘chain tape’ with an essential message: we are all One World and music is the One Voice we share.
To mark the 30th Anniversary of this musical odyssey - which is particularly resonant in this time of global pandemic - Esoteric Recordings, a Cherry Red Records label, is re-releasing One World One Voice in a special two-disc package featuring a digitally remastered recording of this exciting album. The CD comes together with a DVD of Kevin Godley’s epic music film and accompanying documentary, which was seen by more than 650 million people worldwide in May 1990, and is scheduled for repeat by the BBC in October 2020. Complete with lovingly restored artwork, this special commemorative edition will soon be available to pre-order, with 100% of the profits going to Kevin and Rupert’s nominated charity: Friends of the Earth. In the meantime, you are welcome to make a donation to Friends of the Earth by downloading the NDiiD App below.
